Yes, on medical prescription. The nurse administers the infusion over 30 to 60 minutes, monitors vital signs and stays at least 30 minutes after it ends to detect any reaction.
Treatment depends on the severity: 1 to 3 infusions for a moderate deficiency, several months of follow-up for chronic anaemia. The haematologist adjusts according to the results.
Often yes for mild deficiencies, but intestinal absorption is low (10-15%). In case of digestive intolerance or severe deficiency, the IV route is more effective.
