What to expect
Patient preparation
The nurse checks the prescription, confirms fasting requirements and prepares the supplies: tubes, needles, tourniquet, antiseptic.
Venous blood draw
Venepuncture at the elbow crease or the back of the hand. Tubes are filled in the prescribed order (blood culture, coagulation, biochemistry, CBC). Compression dressing applied.
Transfer to the laboratory
Tubes are labelled, placed in an insulated transport bag and delivered to the partner laboratory within the regulatory time frame.
Receiving your results
Results are sent directly to your doctor and to you. The nurse can explain the main values if you wish.

Clinical details
Home blood draws follow ISO 15189 standards and the GBEA (Guide de Bonne Exécution des Analyses de biologie médicale) recommendations. The nurse uses a vacuum collection system (Vacutainer or equivalent) with barcode-identified tubes. The tube-filling order follows the CLSI (Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute) protocol: blood culture (if prescribed), citrate tube (coagulation), dry or gel tube (biochemistry, serology), EDTA tube (CBC), fluoride tube (glucose). The tourniquet is not left in place for more than 60 seconds to avoid haemoconcentration. Tubes are transported upright in an insulated bag maintained between 15 and 25 °C (or 2 to 8 °C for certain assays). Transit time to the laboratory is under 2 hours to guarantee result reliability. Full traceability (identity, draw time, transport conditions) is ensured by the accompanying slip.

If the test requires fasting, the same rules apply at home, usually 8 to 12 hours with water allowed. We confirm any fasting when booking and schedule an early visit so you are not waiting long.
Samples are taken at the agreed time and transferred straight to our partner laboratory, so most results are available within the lab’s normal turnaround, often the same or next day. They are shared with you and your doctor.
