Vital-signs monitoring in Médina, Marrakech

The Médina is the historic heart of Marrakech, a maze of tight derbs around Jemaa el-Fna, the Koutoubia and the souks. Guest riads, family homes, artisans' workshops and small grocers' shops blend together in a tangle of lanes where time seems to stand still. You will find tourists staying in guesthouses, Marrakech families settled here for generations, and many older people who have never left their derb.

Providing care in the Médina means, first of all, knowing how to move through it. The narrow lanes are off-limits to cars: you get around on foot, by motorbike or by bicycle, and you have to know the passages, the landmarks and the doorways so as not to lose time. Our nurses know this network and always finish the journey on foot when the lane is too narrow, which lets them reach your door without detours, where an unfamiliar service would get lost.

Proximity remains an asset: the Médina is bordered by the city's health facilities and is never far from the clinics of Guéliz or the duty pharmacies. But for an elderly patient deep in a derb, an unwell tourist in their riad, or a family with a feverish child, having the nurse come to the home spares a difficult trip through the crowds and the lanes.
